Mexican freeze-dried meals for backpacking: pozole, enchiladas and huevos rancheros

Oso Adventure Meals makes freeze-dried Mexican food for the trail from family recipes: Pozole, Bison Enchiladas, Elk Huevos Rancheros and a Veggie Enchilada Bowl. They're made in Colorado with grass-fed Colorado bison and elk, every pouch is two servings, and all you need is one cup of boiling water.

Why we make Mexican food for the trail

Some of us grew up in Colorado and some of us grew up in Michoacán, Mexico, but we all grew up on the same kind of food. On a backpacking trip in the Rockies, all we could talk about was breakfast eggs, family enchiladas and our abuelita's pozole. Then dinner came out of a bag: a bland, dehydrated beef stew. So we started making our own.

What's in each meal

  • Pozole: pork, elk, hominy, onions, green chilies, tomatoes, red pepper, garlic and Oso Secret Spice Blend.
  • Bison Enchiladas: bison, rice, black and pinto beans, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, green chili, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses and Oso Secret Spice Blend.
  • Elk Huevos Rancheros: elk, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, tomatoes, onions, black beans, red peppers, green chili and Oso Secret Spice Blend.
  • Veggie Enchilada Bowl: rice, black and pinto beans, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, tomatoes, corn, onions, red peppers, green chilies, garlic and Oso Secret Spice Blend.

What is pozole?

Pozole is a traditional Mexican stew built on hominy, big chewy kernels of corn, simmered with meat, chiles and garlic. Ours is our abuelita's recipe with pork and grass-fed Colorado elk. It was the first meal we made for the trail, and it's still the one that started it all.

Enjoy our abuelita's home cooked flavor, no matter where you are.

How spicy are they?

Pozole is our spiciest, and it's labeled Extra Spicy for a reason. The others bring real chile flavor. The Bison Enchiladas are spicy, yet creamy, with two cheeses to round them out.

Is there a vegetarian option?

Yes. The Veggie Enchilada Bowl has all the enchilada flavor with no meat. It does have cheese, so it isn't vegan.

Who makes Oso?

Oso is a Black and Latino owned company based in Denver. Every meal is made in Colorado, and our bison and elk are grass-fed and from Colorado. Our recipes come from the flavors and spices of Mexico and the American Southwest, and many have been in our families for generations.
